Sensory Activities for Preschoolers

Sensory activities for preschoolers are very important for giving them a concrete experience of the world, where the process of playing with the material is more important than any particular outcome. Children learn better when they engage with all their senses and we also know that they have a lot of fun with it.

Here are some fun sensory activiites:

  1. You can have a dry sensory container filled with dried beans, coffee beans, coffee grounds, unpopped popcorn kernels, or small river rocks and glass plant gems, and add plastic animals for your child to find.

“Orbeez” water beads

You can fill a plastic container with water beads (with or without water) and hide plastic letters or numbers inside.

  1. You can do a science themed sensory activity by making a volcano with baking soda and vinegar, and add food colouring. You can have the option of adding scent too, such as lemon extract, orange extract, almond extract, mint extract, strawberry extract, etc.

  2. Fill a plastic container with slime for a super gooey good time. Add some plastic bugs, stirring utensils, glass plant gems, or water beads to enhance the fun!

  3. Spray shaving cream onto a plastic table and add colour with tempera paint, liquid water colours, or food colouring. Let your child draw pictures in the shaving cream.

  4. Place cardboard on top and leave it for a minute then remove gently for a printed picture.

  5. Fill a plastic container with coloured rice and hide interesting items for your child to find.

Butterfly pasta

Make paper boats, cork boats, cut apples in half and add a paper sail with toothpick and let your child sail boats .
